Managers and staff at Hull Trains together with members of the civic and business community celebrated the company’s First Birthday with a reception at the Regen Centre, Riccall, Nr. Selby.

Part of the celebration was a presentation by general manager, Clive Gossop and Sales and Marketing Manager, Paul Lakin who reviewed the progress made over the past year and looking forward to developments, both short and longer term.

o Additional services from May 2001
o Hull Trains’ performance records has hit an all time high with 98.5% reliability and 93.4% of Hull trains running to time in the period finishing 23rd June.
o £1 Fare in August 2001
o Staff numbers increased to 35 - September 2001
o Own drivers recruited – September 2001
o Highly commended in the “Achievement of the Year” category at the National Rail Awards – September 2001
o New trains being sought – September 2001
o Additional weekday service from October 2001

Clive Gossop, General Manager, Hull Trains:

“The first year of any new business is always a challenge but I am delighted with the way the staff have worked together and achieved one of the best customer service records in the industry.”

“Despite the service problems caused by the tragic Hatfield derailment, the company has achieved a financial breakeven. From October we will be operating four return services per day and our longer-term plans include increasing the number of services operated still further and purchasing our own rolling stock which will shorten journey times.”

“Over the next twelve months we will also continue to grow the Hull to London rail travel market which we have already increased by 10%. Excellent promotions, together with reliability and customer service will be our continuing aims.”

A fourth service both two and from London and Selby starting on the 1st October is the next major development for Hull Trains. Looking further into the future Hull Trains are planning to purchase new trains which run at 125 mph.

In closing his remarks, Mr Gossop urged all present, both civic and business leaders to continue to press for improvements to the Selby station. He recalled a time when Selby was pride of the network and he personally would be talking again with Arriva Northern.

NEW TRAIN TIMES
New train times for the 4th daily service departures from

Hull to London King's Cross:
Hull 1008, Brough 1021, Selby 1041, Doncaster 1059, Grantham 1139 and Kings Cross 1312.

London King's Cross to Hull:
King’s X 1036, Grantham 1148, Doncaster 1234, Selby 1306, Brough 1326 and Hull 1344.

ABOUT HULL TRAINS
Hull Trains launched in September 2000 and is providing three direct trains per day from Hull to London King’s Cross and return, six days per week, and two direct trains in both directions on Sundays. It is planned to achieve a 2 hourly service, then an hourly service as quickly as possible in the future. Journey time is just over three hours. Hull Trains stop at Brough, Selby, Doncaster, Grantham and London King’s Cross. All trains are equipped with the latest facilities for disabled passengers and provide a smooth and comfortable journey to the capital. Snacks are available on all trains.
